Quinten's First Outdoor Game

Quinten is now showing his soccer skills in the team that his dad Frank coaches. It was hard slugging for the little guy as the grass was particularly long and the opponents particularly tall ; however Quinten did persevere and lead his team on an impressive charge down the field. You can see that he was pretty hot from the workout. Click here to see a couple pictures full size.

Most Valuable Player Award

Aiden played in the Peterborough Soccer Tournament this last weekend. In the second game of the contest he was singled out by the opposing coach for the Most Valuable Player Award. That was their best game of the series as they came together as a team and passed the ball very well amongst themselves. He was given the mid-fielder position to play and that seemed to suit him well as it allowed him to pretty much play forward or back as needed. So we now have a pop-up shade tent and travel with a group of soccer parents and siblings to the various locations where he plays. It is going to be an interesting summer for sure.

Scary Ride

Lexy came over for a visit today and wanted to ride her little bike. So I guess one starts to get a bit brave and thinking about taking hands off the handle bars going down the driveway hill ...... oooooohhh scary stuff.

The Ball and Chain

We have all heard about the "Ball and Chain" however on a visit to the Old Lindsay Jail on the official opening of its reincarnation into the Lindsay Historical Society, we were able to heft one first hand. So just how heavy is that ball?  My father in law Ken struggled to lift it and declared that it must weigh about 50 pounds.
Ken and I stood out in the cold chill through speaches from the politicians hosted by retired Toronto weatherman Dave Duvall.
Upon entering, we did see a very interesting bunch of heritage displays from miniatures to pre-Columbian native tools. Queen Victoria sat in her chair and Ken had his picture taken with her.  Click here to see a few more pictures.

The Birthday Party

With the kids away to the cottage for the weekend, we really did not have time to celebrate Aiden's birthday proper until now. So we all got together to share some cake and presents. This year's theme seems to be 'Pirates of the Caribean' and he has scored some great Lego kits with that theme. Wednesday, he starts his 'Rep' soccer program so he is going to be quite busy right through the summer.

Pussy Cat Pussy Cat

Today was rehearsal day for Lexy in preparation for her first dance recital. This is of course the culmination of a year's worth of dance lessons at one of the finer dance studios in the region. One minute on stage may not seem like much but these little felines really do steal the show and are the most popular with the audience. Click here to see more of the rehearsal.

Surprise Birthday Visit

Aiden was certainly surprised to see his Papa and Nana walk in to his classroom today. But the look on his face is not from seeing us but rather the tray full of cupcakes that Wenda had prepared for the class. They sang "Happy Birthday" to him before he handed out the cupcakes to his classmates. As teachers we know how to arrange such treats in the classroom - we bought off the principal and secretary with a cupcake each. Aiden turns 8 today. Click here to see another picture.

Spring Flowers

It is that time of year when you just want to go out and wiggle you bare toes in the garden.

Take My Picture Papa

Lexy wanted her picture taken. Do how can you refuse a kid who climbs all over like you are Mount Kilamanjaro?

Aiden's First Communion

There are some events when we grow up that are indeed recognized as rites of passage, and first communion would be one of them. Aiden has been preparing for this for a while now. Wenda has helped him with a study book and homework concerning this event, and last Sunday was the big day for the grade 2 class at his school. Each of the children had a role to play in the service, and Aiden's was to carry the chalice. Here he is all dressed up in his new suit, and when we all go home, there is a lovely meal for family to celebrate the event. There is just one problem. We have a little mouse in the house that likes to stick her fingers in the icing on the cake when nobody is looking. In one of the pictures you can see her eyeing the cake when Aiden is cutting the first slice.
Aiden has been busy this last couple weeks trying out for the Toros hockey team. Their AAA team won all of southern Ontario this year, so you can imagine how hard it would be to get on that team. So far he is trying out for the single A team, and that competition is pretty tough as well. Friday, they put the tryouts in a test against an Oshawa team - sink or swim guys, its showtime.
