Removing Wallpaper

The best way to get old wallpaper off without using a steamer is to peel and soak. Wenda here is doing the peeling, and I am doing the soaking.

Close Dancing

Aiden's team went up against the 3rd ranked team and lost 4 to 7 today. Aiden got 2 goals but it was hard for him as he was sick at home Thur and Friday with the flu and you could see that he did not have the strength to do his normal riguere for the game. This team in particular was a hard-hitting team so it is a wonder he was able to achieve what he did. Take a close look at the stick of his opponent here in this picture. Aiden finished this flourish off with his first goal of the evening with a very nicely placed moves on the goaly to deke him out.

Preparing For First Communion

Most kids who get to stay home from school get it pretty easy, but today Aiden had to prepare for his first communion by hitting the books. When both your grandparents were teachers, its hard for a kid to get a break on a sick day. Fortunately, he's on the mend and should be back to full health for his playoff game tomorrow.

Frosty's Last Stand

It appears as though Frosty is trying to make one last stand in the last remaining patch of snow on our yard. I guess it is now time to change the flag to one of spring flowers. I sure am glad to see spring arrive, even though it means a lot of yard work ahead.

A Game to be Proud of

Last evening was the first game of the playoff season for Aiden's team, The Sharks. They had placed 6th in the regular season, and they were up against the second place team, a team that had hurled insults at them and tripped Aiden 3 times in their previous contest just a few weeks ago, which the Sharks lost. This time the tables were turned. The Sharks played their best game of the season and Aiden went out and scored the first two goals on them. The team was playing aggressively going after the puck and tight in their defense in their own end zone. It would have been a shut out but the opposing team scored a goal in the last minute so the score was 7 to 1 in favour of the Sharks. This is considered a big upset. It turns out that the scout for the AA team was watching the game and asked for Aiden to be at the tryouts for the Toros for next season. We are proud of Aiden and the way the team came together to support one another for this opening game of the playoffs. It was so exciting to watch. So Much Grief

How can a common household outlet cause so much grief?  My microwave and ghetto blaster stopped working about 2 weeks ago - then came on intermittently for the last 2 weeks.  On suspects the breaker but it did not seem to be malfunctioning.  It was not the microwave because it would work on an extension cord.
My genius friend Leigh Parker came to the rescue. So when the breaker is fine and no appliances are working on the circuit you gotta really think out the problem.  It turns out, it was a simple as one of the wires was ever so slightly loose going into or out of one of the electrical plugs. A couple hours of head scratching and my good buddy Leigh Parker figured it out. What grief. Thanks Leigh.

Gold Medal Champions

Aiden worked very hard for his team all day on Saturday as his team had their tournament. They played 3 games and Aiden scored 3 goals - two of them against the top team in the league. It was a very long day and I am sure the little guy was quite tired. Monday, the playoffs begin and it starts all over again.  Click here to see a few more pictures of his play in the tournament.

Cousins

Quinten and Madison were on the same bowling team at school today. For a while, Quinten was actually beating his brother at bowling until Aiden scored two spares one after the other. It helps that they put those rubber bumpers over the gutters. I wish I had those when I was bowling.

Aiden Bowling

Aiden managed a couple of spares together to raise his score to 116 with only 9 frames bowled.

Quinten Bowling

Quinten used a side-throw technique. A couple shots would have been strikes but there was just not enough umph in the throw to knock over the two outside pins.

NHL Old Timers Hockey

Had the opportunity to get a couple free tickets to the NHL Oldtimers game in Oshawa Tuesday night. So Aiden and I went along with our friends Philip and Mark. It was certainly entertainment with Don Jackson, Canada's Olympic champion figure skater of the 1960's making an appearance with a clean skating program and at least one triple.  Not bad when you consider he turns 71 next month.
In the above picture the players are introduced with pyrotechnics in the background.  It was a fun night and Aiden had a ball.
