Marilyn Monroe and me

I was just minding my own business at the Zoomer show in Toronto when an "old friend" dropped by. It was a fun day with the 6-pack in our mini-van. First the men's breakfast with my historical club showing videos from the 1920's through 50's films, then off to the Zoomers Show in Toronto, back to a lovely sumptuous church beef dinner, and finally out to friends for a glass of wine. A very full day indeed, and Marilyn here was a cute distraction.

David and Goliath

ShoppersOct30

Here is an interesting story of David and Goliath. The Goliath that you see here is the new Shoppers Drug mart being built right at the heart of the main intersection in our historic town. It is enormous. The picture above is a very small store with the sign Pharmacy Opening Soon. These stores are just a hundred yards apart in a very small town. Oddly enough where the little store is locating, a hundred and fifty years ago, a patent medicine factory was once producing drugs. How ironic.  It will be interesting to see if the little David can last.

Amber Visits

Amber is our oldest grandchild. She lived with us for 8 and a half years and at times was quite close to us. After a few years of separation we are happy to have her back in our lives again. Monday was a PA day so she had the day to visit with us - what better way than to go shopping with Wenda. At the same time, Lexy found that same leaf pile in front of her house and decided to pull the leaves around to form her little castle.

Leaf Boy

Part of the leaf gathering activities yesterday. Just part of celebrating Fall and what kids do in this season. Of course for adults all those leaves on the ground have a much different expectation. Now wouldn't you rather be the kid jumpingin the leaves! !

I THINK THAT I SHALL NEVER SEE...

I was on a training session for the next election today. I even sat in the mayor's chair. When I finished and returned to my car, I saw this beautiful tree with moss on it. I just had to take a picture.

Backflips

Lexy's favourite game is to crawl up on my lap, have me make my legs into a slide, then do a backflip down my legs. This leads to long negotiations as to how more times she can do it again Whatever the number we agree on. ... she always breaks the agreement. I see a politician in the making.

After the Dinner

After dinner the grandkids all ganged up on their dad. Gonej are the days of taking a snooze on the couch after eating lots if turkey. After dessert, Frank took the kids for a ride in the back '40' through the nature trail on their property.

First Practice

It is the first time on the ice for his hockey team. Just practices in October.  This year he will have a practice and a game each week, but there will be the odd tournament.

6 Pack in Prince Edward County

The travelling 6 pack was at it again today. We started out at 8 am in rain but full of sunny optomism as we headed out for a day trip touring United Empire Loyalist country. We stopped on the oldest road in Ontario to see a yellow house that was part of a land grant from King George to an army officer during the American revolution - he was granted 1000 acres of land. The old yellow house was built in 1808.
We then proceeded to scour the island located just South of Trenton in Lake Ontario, to find some of its famous cheese factories and 34 wineries. The picture you see here was taken at a lake on the island which is 62 metres above Lake Ontario. Scientists still do not know how the lake is able to be fed and maintain its water when it is above all other landforms in the area. You will see pictures of the 6 pack just across the road from this picture and the lower level of Lake Ontario in the background.
It was fun to get together and travel the county for the day. Click here for a few more pictures of the island.

THEY'RE ENGAGED

I have not posted in a week so here is an update with lots of news in the one posting. First off, Aiden was presented with his GOLD medal for his house league team's first place finish in soccer this year. We were all very proud and they won it with that long hour and a half game well into the dark.
Next bit of news is that Amber was allowed to come to Terry's and Natalie's engagement party. This was a neat party that the happy couple put on at a Mexican restaurant in Whitby. There was a nice Fajita buffet, cool drinks and a fair bit of dancing and party games. Both kids and adults attacked the piƱata on the front patio. The Mexican entertainment was superb. All in all it was a great party. Click here to see the pictures.
